Hi, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place to buy comfortable shoes? The balls of my feet are really painful at the moment, so I'm looking for wide shoes with thick, light soles. I wear my Crocs constantly at home, but they're not really suitable for work or wet weather... I have a pair of Clarks Unstructured shoes that are quite good but the soles aren't really thick enough, even with padded insoles. I've always ended up returning shoes ordered over the internet in the past, but think it's time to give it another try...

I wear crocs all the time home & work crocs (black) have a look online - jellyegg is a site I use or amazon.
I have lots of colours, pink/purple/blue/blue with furry liner/black!

Hotters is a good cushioned relaxed leather shoe.
Evans - do lovely boots - I have started to wear them again with wooly tights and socks!

Had foot surgery last year - ohh I lurve my crocs!

My advice is to try shoes on, allow for swelling feet - I did a post last year regarding shoes. Tried on a lot of shoes!
I have a pair of clarks extra wide sandals.

The work crocs are like normal crocs without holes and signed off as safe for in the work place. My occupational health team let me wear them to work in an office.

Try shoes on later in the day - they swell more later in the day!
Enjoy shopping

hi Katy,

shoes don't agree with me .. lol, they never have as i have always had a funny big toe even before RA Sad

so i wear Mules as much as i can unless there's snow on the ground!!

but i always use Flyflots, and have now found a new brand called Shuropody and i've got some lovely trendy Mules from there. they do do shoes as well and are comfy.

my local Garden Centre had a Disability Shop in there ( Dobbies ) and that's where i found them, they are wider fitting and have lovely comfy soles as do Flyflots.

I really struggle with footwear that I can get on and off easily and is also suitable. I suggest you try looking at women's cycling shoes (they are called different things by different brands unfortunately. I've linked to a couple of Sketchers pairs below, but Next often have ones in the Summer which are less bulky). They are smart enough to wear with skirts but have a trainer type sole, and a strap. They are a Godsend.

Another useful thing is to buy the gel inserts women use for heels (like Scholl Party Feet) and put them in. If you put them under the sort of innersoles you can buy at Tesco they really make shoes more comfy.

Finally, the very best thing I have ever bought is a pair of men's motorcycle boots. I have worn them pretty much solidly for about four years. They work as kind of braces to stop me falling when my ankles go, they are heavy so they sort of ground me, they have really good soles, they do up high on the leg with velcro, and they are adjustable. I realise this may not be good for everybody but I cannot praise them highly enough ThumpUp

Hi All

What a brilliant idea getting motorbike boots... thanks for that idea.

I tend to wear Sketchers trainers most of the time - ones with a good cushion on them. Their latest range don't seem to do them anymore.. but the ones I have are lovely. I did get a pair of the newer ones last year, but they are too hard on the bottom of the foot to wear for long.

I also have a very old pair of ecco ankle boots, which are very comfortable and good when it is wet. They are an older version of this:

You can get ecco shoes at greatly discounted prices on the high streets - so no need to pay these sort of prices.

I have trouble buying shoes. I recommend that you ask to see a podiatrist. I saw one last week and it turns out that my footwear may be exacerbating a lot of my foot problems. I now have a good excuse to have a shoe clear out and a shopping spree.

Hi Katy ,
I too give Hotter the vote as you can take the padded insersoles out and instead insert an orthotic. They are expensive, but if you are anywhere near Boundry Mills near Grantham just off the A! they do Hotter seconds at around £35, and quite honestly theres nothing wrong with them. I don't know if other Boundry Mills around the country do them?
Happy walking

Anne, mine are like this

https://www.google.co.uk...othing_Shop%3B250%3B250

I mostly wear them with leggings and a short dress over the top, it's virtually my uniform. I find I am far less likely to fall when I wear them, they have awesome grips which make walking in snow etc easier, they pull on and off well and you don't have to bend down as far to get them on, and the velcro can be done up however bad your hands are.

I also like them because they look more like a statement than a disability thing - 'Hey world, I am bad arse and alternative and down with the kids in my stompy boots which do not look orthopedic' Laugh RollEyes

When they eventually wear out I am definitely getting another pair.

The only downside (apart obviously from them being huge and stompy, but you either mind that or you don't) is that the velcro can catch if you wear them under a long skirt.

Hi Katy,

I've only just noticed your post. I to have huge problems with my feet which make me feel very miserable and down.
I also hate the idea of 'sensible' shoes, and to my friends I'm known as Imelda MarcosThumpUp I think she had a shoe thing!!!

Below is a link to some really fab trainers, they have had numerous compliments and I love themBigGrin

Good luck, there are shoes out there for us I'm sure, we just have to keep looking - oh yes, have a look at 'Fly London' They're very trendy and incredibly
comfortable to wear.
